About Me

Hi! I’m Angelyn. I grew up in the small mountain town of Nederland, Colorado—you know, the one with the frozen grandpa. As a shy and reserved child, I was always the friend with the listening ear and the shoulder to cry on. I kept busy with sports and theater, thankful for the opportunities that come with attending a small school. After spending my formative years in Colorado, I took a leap of faith and moved to Fort Myers, Florida, to attend Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU).

At FGCU, I fully immersed myself in campus life. I was involved in the multicultural and leadership development office, student government, greek life, and the Bachelor of Social Work program. These experiences allowed me to lead retreats, organize events, and guide training programs, while interning with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast. That internship sparked my love for working with adolescents and vulnerable populations. It was also during this time that I began my own mental health journey, attending therapy and learning how vital the right therapist and modality are for growth and healing.

After graduating, I returned to small-town Colorado, unsure of my next steps. I worked in the service industry and saw firsthand the need for affordable mental health care for those in similar roles. That realization pushed me to pursue my Master of Social Work at Metropolitan State University of Denver. When COVID hit, I adapted to an online learning environment while balancing full-time work, school, and internships. I interned with the Griffith’s Center for Children, where I provided therapy, life skills training, and family visitation facilitation. I also learned how transformative telehealth could be, both for clients and for me as a therapist.

Since graduating in 2022, I’ve gained invaluable experience in various roles. I worked with Child Protection Services, where I developed a passion for strengths-based counseling and family-focused approaches. At an inpatient psychiatric hospital, I collaborated with teams to create comprehensive treatment plans and saw the critical need for accessible mental health care in our communities. Reflecting on my experiences—both personal and professional—I knew it was time to take the next step. That’s why I founded Brave Step Therapy. My goal is to provide affordable, compassionate, and affirming care to help individuals overcome challenges, embrace their strengths, and move forward in their journeys. Let’s take that brave step together.

Intersecting Identities

I am a cisgendered white female who identifies as queer, and uses she/her pronouns. I am neurodivergent and have a differing amount of spoons daily. I am privileged to have been able to pursue higher education and live in a state I choose daily.

I recognize that some privileges I hold are immense, and I aim to use the benefits to advocate and support those struggling, thriving, and in-between.
